For a considerable number of these individuals, traveling by car is an essential means of independence and mobility.
However, finding accurate and accessible information about facilities and services to support their journeys across
regions or countries can be a daunting challenge.
The journey for people with disabilities is about more than just getting from point A to point B—it’s about ensuring that every stage of the trip is manageable and stress-free. While progress has been made through non-discrimination laws and international agreements like the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), barriers to mobility still exist.
These barriers are particularly evident when traveling internationally where regulations, facilities, and accessibility standards can vary widely.
Recognising this gap, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), in partnership with the International Transport Forum (ITF), launched an initiative to empower individuals with disabilities. By gathering and analysing data from FIA Member Clubs and ITF Member States worldwide, FIA created the Disabled Motoring website—a comprehensive resource designed to make car travel accessible and inclusive.
The FIA Disabled Motoring website serves as a one-stop platform for:
Whether you’re planning a domestic road trip, visiting a neighbouring country, or embarking on a
global adventure, the website is tailored to meet the needs of:
The FIA Disabled Motoring website is more than a directory—it’s a tool for empowerment,
independence, and inclusion. It ensures that everyone, regardless of their abilities, can travel
confidently and enjoy the freedom of mobility.
Together, FIA and ITF are committed to breaking down barriers and building a world where
independent travel is accessible to all.
